Dr Sketchy's at the Menagerie

Dr Sketchy's takes 'life' drawing and finally injects some life into it via a heady mishmash of music, burlesque, comedy, performance, silly games and even sillier prizes.

Our burlesque stars will be selecting their favourite sketches with prizes generously supplied by Art and Hobby of Victoria Square in Belfast.

Starting in May there will also be an extra prize each month of a book coutesy of America's premiere art publishers Baby Tattoo Books

Don't worry if you can't muster up a masterpiece - the main focus is to have fun trying. So if you're looking for something different, Sketchy's is exactly what the doctor ordered.

Every Sunday at The Menagerie, University Street, Belfast.

Doors open at 8pm, sketching commences at 8.30pm until roughly 10.30, followed by a selection of tunes until 11.30.

Tickets are £5 at the door .

Dr. Sketchy's is what happens when cabaret meets art school.

Dr. Sketchy's is the little Brooklyn event that became a movement. Founded in 2005 by artist Molly Crabapple, Dr. Sketchy's asked a simple question: Why can't drawing naked people be sexy?

Molly, herself an art student and model, combed New York to find the most beautiful burlesque dancers, the most bizarre circus freaks, and the most rippling hunks of man. Then she let ordinary members of the public draw them for three hours.

Interspersed with posing are comedy skits and ridiculous drawing contests (best left handed drawing? Best incorporation of a woodland animal?) where you can win booze or prizes.  Before long, artists across the world wanted in on Molly's evening of decadence. Starting in Norfolk, Virginia, but soon spreading from Hollywood to London to Melbourne, Dr Sketchy's began popping up across the globe. Now they're a 50-city strong art community, with new branches starting each week.
In June 2006, they signed with Sepulculture Books to do Dr Sketchy's Official Rainy Day Colouring Book. Written by Molly Crabapple and John Leavitt, The Colouring Book is one part official Dr Sketchy's history and DIY compendium, one part activity book on acid. Filled with drinking games, paper dolls, dirty word finds, and almost a hundred illustrations, it's available for sale now, with its first printing selling out fast.
Dr Sketchy's is now entering it's forth year. And we want to hear from you. Whether you're a reporter, documentary filmmaker, glittering burlesque babe, or just some scruffy art monkey off the street, drop by and say hello!
